Lanzarote as a Holiday Destination

There are three main holiday resorts in Lanzarote:

Puerto Del Carmen

This is Lanzarote's main tourist resort offering over 6km of golden sandy beaches. It has been voted the best resort in the Canary Islands for many years running and has the attraction on the main beach promenade of many bars, restaurants and shops, a new 18 hole golf course and for the energetic who enjoy late nightlife there are many clubs and discos.

Costa Teguise

The windsurfing capital of the Canaries, this is a quieter and more relaxed resort and situated a few kilometres from Arrecife, the island's Capital. It boasts Lanzarote's original 18 hole golf course and an Aqua Park. There are a number of golden sand beaches and the bars, restaurants and shops are less concentrated in one area as in Puerto Del Carmen. Accommodation in this resort is all normally within a short walking distance of a beach and all other facilities.

Playa Blanca

This once quiet fishing village is now a thriving holiday community. Playa Blanca now has the new Rubicon Marina which is now being hailed as the Puerto Banus of the Canaries. Located to the west of this resort, are the beautiful beach coves of Papagayo. There is a regular ferry service from Playa Blanca to the nearby Island of Fuerteventura.

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands. The island average temperature throughout the year is 21°C with highs of 40°C during the summer months. The sea temperature varies from around 17°C in winter months and 23°C in summer months.

Timanfaya National Park is the largest attraction of the island, although Cueva de Los Verdes, Jameos de Agua, Mirador del Rio, Jardin de Cactus, Monumento al Campesino, Fundacion Cesar Manrique and wine tasting in the Bodega El Grifo, Rancho Texas theme park are also worth visiting when you're on the island.

There are plenty of other activities including scuba-diving, golfing, windsurfing, surfing, kite-surfing, fishing, cycling, hiking and hand gliding and many more sport activities.
